Infographics are a huge part of the vastly growing content marketing industry. In the infographic below we see that in just 2 years, “infographic” search volume has increased by over 800%. The question is why have infographics become so successful?
Infographics make it easy to read and consume data while making it visual stimulating. While posting numbers and facts in an article is a great way to support your thesis, the power of storytelling through images has room for exponential growth. Images in the brain are managed simultaneously and visuals are processed 60,000x faster in the brain than text according to the below infographic. In a world where our attention span is constantly decreasing, infographics are the best way to illustrate statistics that will resonate with the consumer. With the abundance of content out there on the World Wide Web, publishers need to be clear, concise, and elucidate their story quicker - hence the rise of infographics.
The other reason why infographics have been successful is because of the ability to share them through social media. Social media is a powerful vehicle for word of mouth marketing that, like any vehicle, needs wheels to make it turn. The wheels on the social vehicle are content because this is where any conversation starts, whether it’s a status from a friend or an article published from a brand. Consumers are presented with tons of content every day and the more valuable the information is, the more likely they will share with their audience.
